2026 Buick Envista ST Offers Affordable Stability in Uncertain Times

The Little Buick that Could

The 2026 Buick Envista is a compact SUV with room for five and their stuff. It’s front-wheel drive, powered by a three-cylinder engine with surprisingly spry and agile performance.

Every time I road test this little SUV, I’m left with a sense of relief and gratitude that even in today’s overinflated uncertainty, you can still trust a Buick.

The Envista Reminds Me of Another Small Buick

Some of you reading this may remember a time when the Buick Century, and its GM siblings the Oldsmobile Cutlass Ciera, Chevrolet Celebrity, and Pontiac 6000, crowded the roads.

These front-wheel-drive, mid-sized sedans offered a host of four- and six-cylinder (and even diesel) engine options. They were boxy, symmetrical, affordable, and comfier than Grandma’s couch. More importantly, you still see them on the road.

I smile every time I see a 1980s or early 1990s Buick Century puttering down a city street. Doesn’t matter the condition, these cars have a tenacious reputation for hoarding miles on the odometer.

I see a lot of the Century’s spirit in the 2026 Buick Envista. I’ll let you know in 2050 if the Envista has lived up to the Century’s longevity. In the meantime, here’s what a new Buick Envista has to offer.

Contemporary Styling with Comfy Seats

The Buick Envista is a good-looking SUV with contemporary exterior styling. From certain angles, it looks like a streamlined space capsule. Then you look at it from another angle, squint your eyes a little, and the Envista looks like the result of a Lamborghini Urus going into labor. Small and cute with its mother’s eyes. It leans towards a youthful appearance but retains enough elegance to be worthy of Buick’s three-shield emblem.

The model shown in photos is the mid-tier Sport Turning ST variant. Every Buick Envista ST comes standard with 18-inch gloss black wheels and gloss black exterior accents like side mirrors and molding. Moreover, the model I road-tested came loaded with the optional Studio Series package ($4,360). This package offers a long list of features, starting with the Ceramic exterior color and an upgraded set of 19-inch gloss black wheels.

Room for Five and More

The Envista ST comes standard with black upholstery and tasteful Santorini blue stitching. With the Ceramic exterior color and Studio Series package, the blue stitching turns Whisper Beige. It also includes a moonroof, flat-bottom steering wheel, keyless entry, automatic windshield wipers, wireless charging, heated seats, adaptive cruise control, and a power liftgate. The 11-inch center screen is molded into the dashboard, so it looks like it belongs, unlike other vehicles where it comes off like a glued-on iPad.

Beyond the creature comforts, the Envista’s interior has plenty of headroom and room to stretch out. The front seats in particular can fool you into thinking you’re driving a much larger vehicle. At the back, the cargo space is ample, allowing for a large volume of stuff to be stored, and that’s before you lay the rear seats down.

The great thing about having a small SUV with a large interior is that you never feel like you’re compromising. You can fit in practically any parking space while loading or unloading a week’s worth of groceries or a college dorm room’s worth of furniture.

Sips Fuel and Packs a Turbocharged Punch

All three available Buick Envista trim levels use the same drivetrain, a 1.2L ECOTECH three-cylinder turbocharged engine bolted to a six-speed transmission. This little engine produces 137 horsepower to motivate the front wheels. Now, on paper, that may not sound like enough grunt to get up and go. But you’d be wrong! This little powertrain can pack a punch without burning a lot of energy. The EPA rating for the 2026 Buick Envista is 28 mpg city and 32 mpg highway.

Driving impressions are subtle but comfortable. Even with the shiny sport pedals and ST badge, the Envista isn’t a sports car, nor does it have to be. This SUV is focused on being a compact cruiser with ultra-light power steering, a responsive throttle, and smooth gear changes. The engine makes a raspy burble when you put your foot down, and I’m glad Buick decided to give a real transmission over a CVT because it does make a difference.

The Envista, while not meant for exuberant driving, feels like it could handle a curve at speed if the right hands are behind the wheel.

Compact Luxury at a Reasonable Price

The entry-level 2026 Buick Envista Preferred starts at $26,495 (according to Buick’s official website). The mid-tier Sport Touring model starts at $27,995 with standard 18-inch gloss black wheels, a flat-bottom steering wheel, remote start, and stylish Santorini Blue stitching. The top-of-the-line Buick Envista Avenir starts at $31,295. These are easy to spot thanks to its 19-inch chrome wheels.

However, the Envista Sport Touring with the optional Studio Series package is the best value overall. You gain a lot of what you would have included in the Avenir while staying under $35,000. For example, the Ceramic-colored ST shown in the photos had an MSRP of $32,355.

What the Envista proves above all else is that luxury doesn’t need to come in a big package.
